I am a true wine lover. And I also love it when I find a great deal on a wine. And I feel fine about it. I haven't asked for a discount, I am being offered one. The winery, distributor or retailer has voluntarily chosen to lower the price because it is to their advantage. I am helping them out y purchasing the discounted wine. Simple.
It seems to me that you are - unusually for you - considering the average consumer as rather stupid. Surely, most consumers that a rioja at £7.99 (or whatever) is not the same wine and certainly not of the same quality as a rioja that cost £47.99.
I don’t think the average wine drinker is stupid, I think they are - totally reasonably - not very well informed about the ‘correct’ price of any particular style of wine. They know what they are used to paying in the stores where they do their wine buying. They probably haven’t ever encountered a £47.99 Rioja. Where would this have happened?
